Art: The schizophrenic cats, by Louis Wain

Louis Wain was an English artist, from the early XX century,  best known for his drawings, which consistently featured anthropomorphised large-eyed cats and kittens. In his later years he suffered from schizophrenia, which, according to some psychologists, can be seen in his works.

At first, Wain was an illustrator of animals and country scenes and later illustrator of children's stories, themes that gave sustenance and some recognition.

His illustrations began to spread throughout England, cats playing golf, drinking tea or driving coaches, human expressions and gestures, all dressed in the fashion of the time. His famous cats were everywhere: in the press, comic strips, in greeting cards, calendars ... Also he participated in many organizations for the defense of animals, becoming a member of the National Cat Club.

Cats and were a vital part of the works of Wain, but from 1910 they begin to show significant changes. Many psychologists have taken these mutations as an example of  schizophrenia in advance of the author .
